In 2002, hijackers stormed a crowded Moscow theater and held spectators and performers hostage until a military intervention resulted in over one hundred fatal casualties. “Conference” envisions how some characters who experienced this situation strive to deal with this past event and move forward. On the threshold between national, personal, and family trauma, the fiction film presents a disturbing long sequence staged in the same theater, in which stories and memories gradually become a new enclosure, radically turning the past into present. *(E.V)
