In “Infantry”, the short film directed by Alagoas-born director Laís Santos Araújo, we follow Joana playing house, doll, and makeup while she waits for her birthday party. On TV, the girl’s brother looks for his father. The mother continues with the preparations. A female guest arrives early, but she did not come for the party. Divided between the curiosity of knowing more about this girl and her desire to become a young woman, Joana begins to understand gender roles. (K. M.)
