Despite the everyday hardships, Maycon (played by Edilson Silva), a young man from Pernambuco working a string of low-paying jobs in the southern city of Curitiba, remains undeterred in his commitment. His big plan: to get back into the boxing rings. When the mother of his daughter opts to trail a different path, he discovers what it’s like to live a life caring for a two-year-old child. Bruno Costa’s precise camera closely trails the movements – whether accurate or hesitant – of such a common character amid Brazil’s contemporary landscape. *(L.B)
