Synopsis

An intimate portrait of Mothiba Grace Bapela and her extraordinary career as a domestic worker, actor, and mother in South Africa. Made over the course of 10 years by actor Lindiwe Matshikiza, the documentary delves deep into the protagonist’s daily work and memories, with a dense visual experimentation encompassing from theatrical staging to animation. As she breaks away from the societal roles cast to her, Bapela writes the lines of her own life, marked by challenges and triumphs and traversed by the history of a country. (C. I.)
