Synopsis
The German multimedia artist, researcher, and archivist Thieme has made several works around memory in Bosnia and Herzegovina, including a 2010 short quietly registering sites that once pertained to the Bosnian War. In her new feature, made a decade afterwards, she revisits these places with a small crew and films amplified still images from the short while conversing with local people about the past and their lives today. The project turns from solemn grounding to something more cheerful and lighter, with its playful conveyance of the continuance of life that goes on spilling outside the frame. (A. C)
