Lacuesta follows two Roma brothers in a continuation of his 2006 film ‘The Legend of Time’ that recalls episodic film series by Kiarostami and Truffaut. It mixes documentary and fiction in following Isra and Cheíto, young men who return from prison and naval duty, respectively, to live with family members and look for work in their impoverished island birthplace on Spain’s Bay of Cadiz. The long-separated brothers’ reunion leads the tattooed men to open their hearts to one another. The film’s 16mm camera follows them closely throughout, its movements washing like waves over the skin.
