Using personal archival footage, the film pieces together an emotionally-charged puzzle, anchored by the testimony of a woman in her forties. Motherhood has thrust her into the nebulous intersection of self-preservation, love for her daughter, and the recognition that her daughter may soon have legal autonomy to make life-altering decisions. A film that opens – without claiming to resolve – the intricacies of fear and guilt, as well as the emotions of affection and hope, challenging a series of taboos not only surrounding motherhood but also regarding mental illness.
