Official Selection: Brazilian Views and Mirada Paranaense

The films in the Brazilian Views section comprise a selection of the newest and boldest trends in Brazilian cinema. With five feature films and six short films, the curatorship team has fashioned a programming selection striving towards possible Brazilian cinematographies. Highlights include the science fiction King Car, by Renata Pinheiro, recently awarded Best Film at the 49 th Gramado Film Festival; Mirador, by Bruno Costa, which explores the challenges faced by a boxer who becomes a father; Subterranean, by Pedro Urano; the documentaries Nũhũ Yãg Mũ Yõg Hãm: This Land Is Our Land!, by Isael Maxakali, Sueli Maxakali, Carolina Canguçu and Roberto Romero, addressing the indigenous struggle, and The Good Will Come, by Uilma Queiroz, which turns its gaze to women’s struggle for survival amid Brazil’s northeastern hinterland.

For the second time in the Olhar de Cinema’s history, this year’s edition of Mirada Paranaense will have two feature films: Bia Plus One, by Wellington Sari, and Ursa, by William de Oliveira, will both premiere at the festival. There is, however, a third film from Paraná: directly from Curitiba, Mirador, by Bruno Costa, which premiered at the Tiradentes Film Festival. Furthermore, Mirada Paranaense will also present eight short films.
